In an electrifying performance at the Elevate Africa event in Abuja on October 11, 2024, Davido brought the house down with one of his hit songs, infusing the evening with infectious energy.

Following his performance, the renowned artist took the stage for an insightful interview with CNN's Stephanie Busari, shedding light on the shifting international perception of Africa, particularly Nigeria.

Davido reflected on the past, recalling a time when Africans and Nigerians were often stigmatized. "About Fifteen years ago, when I was a teenager, Nigerians would claim to be Jamaicans because of the negative connotations associated with being from Nigeria," he revealed. However, the Afrobeat sensation emphasized that the tide has turned. "The entertainment industry, especially Afrobeat, has revolutionized the way Africa is perceived globally." , he submits.

Today, Davido noted, people proudly claim African heritage. "If you ask a Jamaican person where they're from, they'll say Africa or Nigeria."

The global popularity of Afrobeat has played a significant role in rebranding Africa's image. Beyond music, Davido highlighted Nigeria's cultural exports – clothing, food, and rich traditions – as key factors in the country's growing recognition.

He cited Lagos Restaurant and Lounge in Times Square, New York, as an exemplary showcase of Nigerian culture. It's a West-African Fusion Experience that leaves a lasting impression. He said Lagos Lounge is the biggest restaurant in Times Square To also buttress his point about how he has been working on changing international perceptions about Africa, he explained; “when collaborating with international artists for music videos , I invite them to Nigeria, because I am eager to share the country's beauty and wealth. I tell them, You have to come to Nigeria o! They're amazed by our modern infrastructure and rich lifestyle, dispelling stereotypes of Africa as a continent of poverty."
